The best way to control the growth of government is to curtail its spending habits, forcing politicians to make choices between competing policies rather than offering up electoral sweeteners.

Greater Responsibility

Reducing government intervention in society will require others - individuals, families, business and other organisations - to step up their activities. Accountability, responsibility and consequences will become more transparent and less confusing.

Step 1

Set in place a budget charter that does not allow governments to plan for a budget deficit in any year, without approval by a public referendum or “independent of government” authority.

Step 2

Revisit the debt ceiling placed on government borrowing, and ensure it cannot be exceeded without approval by a public referendum or “independent of government” authority.

Step 3

Amend the Constitution to allow Australian citizens to become more involved in their government’s planning and implementation strategies.
